Tenno no Ryoriban

Last week I got bored and started watching this drama!

Actually, at the beginning of this drama season, I read the synopsis and didn't really care for it. One, I'm not a huge fan of dramas about cooking and two, I'm not a huge fan of historical dramas either. But I got bored, watched one episode and totally fell in love

So at first, this drama sounds like it's just going to be about Akiyama Tokuzo (Sato Takeru) becoming the Emperor's chef. But after watching it, I think the core of this drama is really the human relationships that Tokuzo forms along the way. Every single character is well-developed and believable and just so... human.

The subtitle of this drama 'どうしてこんなにも愛があふれているんだろう。(Why is it so full of love/why does love overflow so/however you want to translate it )’ fits so perfectly with the message of this drama! Every single episode is so fulfilling to watch and you can tell that the entire staff took great care to put together this amazing drama!

At the beginning of the drama, Tokuzo is a guy with no real ambition of his own. He tries many, many things, but gets bored of everything quickly. His parents don't know what to do with him anymore, so they marry him off into another family. His wife, Takahama Toshiko, is a very mild and shy person, but they learn to love each other. One day, during one of his runs for his job for the Takahama family, he runs into a cook for the army and eats fried cutlet for the first time and falls in love with Western cuisine...

Sato Takeru does well in the role of Tokuzo, but I really think it's the supporting characters that really make this drama shine!

[spoilers ahead!]Toshiko (Kuroki Hana) is so nice and supportive of Tokuzo, even though he runs away from the Takahama family to pursue culinary arts in Tokyo. Chef Usami (Kobayashi Kaoru) is very strict and seemingly harsh, but he is actually very kind, recognizing Tokuzo's ambition to learn and his skills, but also pointing out his flaws. Shintaro (Kiritani Kenta), who also ends up in Paris to pursue his own dream of becoming an artist, is such a great friend. When Tokuzo is hesitating about going back to Japan, he gives him the final push, even though he doesn't want Tokuzo to leave. I love his lines in their farewell scene!

"I'm the one who doesn't want you to leave the most.

But I'm Japanese!

I have to hand over the best cook to His Majesty the Emperor."

There are many other awesome characters, but my favorite character has to be Shutaro (Suzuki Ryohei) aka 'Nii-yan', Tokuzo's older brother. He's sooo nice and I die every time he shows up. He is the one who believes in Tokuzo the most, giving him the opportunity to learn how to cook even when their father was pushing him to bring Tokuzo back home. He is also the one who gives Tokuzo the money he needs to go to Paris. Every single time he shows up, I am totally ready to cry I love, love, love his letter in episode 6 and the scene in episode 8 when Tokuzo comes back to tell him that he is to be the Emperor's Chef.

I haven't been this obsessed with a drama in a looong time and I've been annoying everyone I know in real life to watch it too lol I'm dying of anticipation every day waiting for the next episode. Having said that, episode 9 is airing tomorrow, so I'm preparing myself for more feels Anyway, watch this drama everyone, you won't regret it

Sometimes I like waiting for a drama season to end before watching them so that I don't die of anticipation every week and that's what I did for Ouroboros And now I have all these feels instead And I don't often watch dramas without skipping through at least half of it, but this time, I watched basically the entire thing

[SPOILER ALERT]For some very odd reason, I watched the last episode first And even though I barely knew the characters, they totally got to me The videotape part reminded me of Bara no Nai Hanaya, which totally killed me too, and the ending was so Maou, which killed me too, so it's like double slayage But the one part which I can't get over is why Danno had to die like that Why couldn't he be shot protecting Ikuo or something like that, instead of some stupid brat being stupid Ok, I guess it's kind of admirable that he wanted to protect his dad, but And it's even sadder because I think it's the same gun that killed Yuiko

Anyway, so the ending scene when Ikuo brought Danno back to Mahoroba's House and committed suicide and they met Yuiko in heaven totally slayed me I will admit that I never really followed Toma because I never really cared for his character in other dramas, but omg I totally love Ikuo And the kids were also really good at acting and they were so cute

Oh, and I'm really glad that they didn't do the cliche female character is pregnant with male character's child after he died thing

And THEN I went back to the first episode and watched the entire thing and pulled an all-nighter

So for anyone who didn't want to be spoiled, just watch it! It was sooo good

Yes I am still alive!

Wow it's been 2.5 years since I last posted :D

Actually, this is a bit embarrassing to admit, but I was hacked and couldn't get back into my email >__< So I was too lazy to come back online, but here I am again finally~

Anyway, so it's been 2.5 years, I wonder who is still on these days~ it feels like everybody left fandom/LJ D: But this is also one of the main reasons I decided to come back on :) I don't know if anyone from refrain_subs is still here, since a lot of people left >__< But I know that there are always new fans who want to watch old videos! So basically I wanted to ask if anybody knows if anyone is still taking care of refrain_subs! :D?

On the other hand, I managed to get back my twitter! It's currently empty, but I suppose I'll use it sometime :D

By the way, since it has been forever since I've been on, do message me or reply to some post if you want me to friend you back! There are too many old requests and I'm fairly certain most of you guys aren't here anymore, soooo yeah :D

Finally ♥

Aside from that, I went to the CD store yesterday (I'm in Taiwan right now btw) and looked around and there wasn't a trace of Kisumai I asked the store people if they were taking preorders (which you could see billions of for kpop >__<), but they didn't even know and told me to check back when it's released! Which is apparently the 12th here, according to the Taiwan avex site for Kisumai. Two more days for me  Anybody want to send me the Tamamori online shop version of the CD? jk

Days pass by so quickly~

Almost 2 months since I last posted

So, uh, yeah, not much has been going on, so I didn't bother coming online... But then I came on a few days ago, and shahirashera messaged me with perfect timing So we've been working on 8UPPERS since! And yay I finished translating the first two parts~ Now it's up to shahirashera to do all the hard stuff ahaha

Oh, and although I thought I wouldn't care much for it, but I've been watching Zenkai Girl and really liked it And I still haven't started Ikemen desu ne And I'm thinking of watching Ouran High School Host Club and Meitantei Conan too

So, this was the VERY FIRST CONCERT I'VE EVER BEEN TO. I'm sooo glad it was Yamapi's, one of my very first JE biases  Not putting this uber long entry under a cut, because I want to spam you all with it

First off, Yamapi is beautiful, gorgeous, flawless, perfect, etc etc etc. The concert venue in Taipei fits like, 5000 people, so you could see him from basically any seat So my ticket was 2500 NTD, which I think is pretty cheap for a concert ticket I reaaally wanted to get a 3000 NTD seat, an arena seat, but those were already sold out I sat in the light blue B section

Anyway, so I arrived at the place at 5:30 ish, and just kinda walked around. I think there were people who came on tours, because there were like, 2 tour buses that I could see. I didn't really bother going to that side, though, so there might have been more tour buses, I'm not sure. Also, because I'm a cheapskate, I didn't buy anything It was kinda awkward holding nothing while everyone else was holding uchiwa and penlights But I'm a cheapskate and thick-skinned, so whatever It started raining like 10, 15 minutes before we could enter, so everybody flocked to the doors to get away from the rain So yeah, we stood around waiting... until at 6, they let us in. I went to my seat, and... waited some more Because the concert didn't start until 7, so yeah, I just sat there for an hour There were annoucements saying that smoking was strictly prohibited and that taking pictures or recording was prohibited, and not to block other fans' view with the uchiwa or penlight... standard concert stuff.

And then at 7, the lights dimmed, and omg fangirls are LOUD. Erm. So. I can't really say much about the actual concert, because I actually didn't listen to the album much before the concert (LOL FAIL I KNOW ) so I'm sure other people could tell you better But urgh, being on the 2nd floor was a bit depressing because when he threw the signboards, his towel, his shirt, he only threw to the arena  (Oh, I think he threw a signboard to the green area, but I'm not too sure, since I sometimes stared at the screen instead) And not that many streamers made it to the 2nd floor, and I was in the middle of the section, so I couldn't run into the aisle and grab some (like some fangirls did).

Yamapi's Engrish was SO ADORABLE LOL I think more people would've understood if he just spoke Japanese, but well, it was adorable

In the question part, a girl asked out of the songs he made, which one did he like best and if he could sing a bit of it. He answered World is yours because Japan was going through a tough time, but he didn't sing it, but he sang it later in the concert anyway. Another girl asked if she could have a sign and he gave her his towel instead! And then a girl asked which drama role he had so far was the hardest to do and to show a bit of it, and he answered that rather than hard, there was something a bit embarrassing to do, and he did the Halleluyah CHANCE Then another girl asked if she could have a sign, and he was like dame desu! But then he was like uso desu~ and said that he'll give one to her later. I think the fangirl thought that he meant he'll like, throw a signboard in her general direction or something, because she was like 'But I'm afraid someone else will take it from me', and Yamapi said that a staff will give it directly to her later And then a girl asked how would he propose to his future wife, and he was like 'I want you!' Oh, so far, that was relatively in order, but there was one that I don't really remember the timing to. The girl asked if he could shake hands with her, and it became like a 20 people handshake from all those other fangirls grabbing his hand

Sometimes when he was dancing, one of the stage lights would be behind him (from my view), and the light would shine all around him and it was sooo beautiful

On the day I went, he did 3 encores. During one of the encores, he went on a platform/moving cart thing, I don't know what you call them, on the 2nd floor, and everybody climbed over the seats to get closer I kinda hesitated a bit, so I didn't manage to get too close to him, but he was like, 2 meters away Oh, I suppose you can count that as close enough So, the entire concert lasted for only (? I don't know how long usual concerts are ) 2 hours and 20 minutes. There was a girl near me who kept crying when it was over

Oh yeah, ABC-Z was backdancing, and Tsukada must've been assigned to our section or something, because he was on our side a LOT. And he was all smiling, waving and doing peace signs and being adorable

So after the concert, I walked around to the entrance/exit gate, and there were loooads of fans standing around 5(?) vans. The drivers or security or whoever they were shooed us back so there was a clearing for the cars to go out And then after like, 45 minutes or so, Yamapi finally came out! ...I think. I thought I saw him for like, 2 seconds, but it was a little past 10PM already, so it was daaark and I'm not really sure lol. Anyways, so they left, and I left after that too

I used to think that people who go to multiple concerts in the same tour were wasting money, but after the concert, I totally wanted to go to the one on the 22nd as well Except, well, all the tickets were sold out  So yeah, that was my first experience at a concert Still can't really believe that he was standing right there in front of me

Follow-up to last post :D

I found a stream if you want to hear it :D

The part where he talked about the recording is from 24:03 to 24:32 melody2

Here's a translation of that part catface
Speaking of that, that's right, recently, I went to sing!
As for what I sang, a song!
At a recording studio. In Victor.
The studio where Kuwata Keisuke-san did the broadcast for Kouhaku.
I went to do a recording there.
Eh? What's wrong? This atmosphere.
Ah, was this something I shouldn't have said at this point in time?
That's, well, what's wrong with saying that I did something that I did!?
What am I snapping back for!

Ahaha Kimura, always the one breaking conventions hearts
